On Tuesday, the Jammu and Kashmir police reported the arrest of terrorist Adil Manzoor Langoo, who was responsible for the tragic murder of two labourers from Punjab in the Srinagar region of the Union Territory.
“Adil Manzoor Langoo, the terrorist who perpetrated the shooting of two labourers from Punjab in the Habba Kadal area of the city on February 7, has been apprehended,” stated Additional Director General of Police Vijay Kumar, according to PTI.
Amritpal Singh and Rohit Masih, both engaged in woodwork, were targeted at their residence in the Shalla Kadal area of Shahed Gunj on February 7th.
While Amritpal Singh succumbed to his injuries on the spot, Rohit Masih was rushed to a nearby hospital but tragically passed away later. Hailing from the Amritsar district of Punjab, they had journeyed to Jammu and Kashmir in search of livelihood to support their underprivileged families.
The recovered weapon used in the attack was identified as a pistol, confirmed the ADGP.
Authorities revealed that Langoo was radicalized by handlers based in Pakistan through social media channels.
Since 2019, Jammu and Kashmir has been witnessing violence against non-locals following the abrogation of Article 370 by the Union government. The attack in Shahed Gunj marked the first act of terrorism against non-locals in the region this year. In a similar incident last October, a migrant worker from Uttar Pradesh was fatally shot in Pulwama. The police had responded by cordoning off the area.
Moreover, in January, an Army convoy was subjected to intense gunfire in the Poonch area, prompting a subsequent search operation by the Indian Army to eliminate the terrorists from the vicinity.
