Joker: Folie à Deux underwhelming box office results.
This weekend, a huge upset is expected at the domestic box office as the unrated horror film Terrifier 3 attempts to unseat the highly anticipated sequel Joker: Folie à Deux at the top of the rankings. Joker: Folie à Deux, in fact, is going to break all previous records as it manages to cross the $50 million threshold following a disastrous first week of release. After opening to underwhelming box office receipts, the movie lost its top spot in a matter of days. Not only is it underperforming compared to Todd Phillips’ 2019 Joker, which also starred Joaquin Phoenix and was directed, but it’s also turning out to be one of the worst box office disasters of the year.
The Success of ‘Terrifier 3 ‘
Conversely, Terrifier 3 is riding high on a tide of encouraging chatter to a top finish this coming weekend. With almost $8 million on opening day, including the $2.6 million it garnered in previews on Thursday, the horror sequel exceeded expectations. After receiving a 92% audience rating on Rotten Tomatoes, a reasonably high B CinemaScore from opening day attendees, and a 92% audience rating on the aggregation website, it is presently predicted to make approximately $15 million its three-day premiere.
Terrifier 3 will reach $10 million, which is the amount Terrifier 2 ended its domestic run with a few years ago, in just two days. Since its 2016 theatrical debut, the Terrifier film franchise, directed by Damien Leone, has grown its devoted following.

Joker: Folie à Deux is expected to have one of the largest second weekend losses in the history of wide releases, following a startlingly low $37 million opening weekend gross (the first Joker made approximately $100 million in its first three days of release).
The movie will surpass the $50 million milestone by Sunday, but it is unlikely at this point to even reach the $100 million level domestically by the conclusion of its run. To put things in perspective, Warner Bros. reportedly budgeted $200 million for the film, following the $1 billion global success of the first Joker.
A few days ago, Beetlejuice made its premiere on digital streaming services, taking the fourth position. In its sixth weekend of release, the movie brought in just under $2 million on Friday and is expected to bring in over $6 million over the course of the next two days. The movie’s domestic box office receipts likely surpass $275 million by Sunday.

The comic film Saturday Night, which opened nationwide this week following 14 days in restricted theaters, and the holdover flop Transformers One, which has finally creeped past the $50 million mark after three full weeks of play, will battle it out for fifth place.
