Maruti has officially launched the CNG version of its popular Swift model, just four months after introducing the petrol variant. The starting price for the Swift CNG is Rs 8.20 lakh (ex-showroom) and it’s available in three trims: VXi, VXi (O), and ZXi. This is Maruti Suzuki’s 14th CNG-powered vehicle in India.

New Engine for Swift CNG
The Swift CNG gets a new Z12E petrol engine modified to work with CNG. Maruti claims it delivers an impressive 32.85 km/kg, a 6% improvement over the previous model with the 1.2-liter K-series engine. It comes with a 5-speed manual gearbox.
In CNG mode, the engine produces 69.75hp and 101.8Nm of torque, slightly less than the petrol version, but torque is marginally higher. The CNG setup uses a single large cylinder in the boot, unlike the twin-cylinder design seen in some competitors. Emissions have also been reduced by 6% compared to the older Swift CNG model.

- VXi Trim: Includes six airbags, electronic stability control (ESC), remote central locking, halogen projector headlights, 14-inch steel wheels, and power windows.
- VXi (O) Trim: Adds a height-adjustable driver’s seat, a 7-inch infotainment screen with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, and steering-mounted controls.
- ZXi Trim: The top-spec variant, now available with CNG, includes LED projector headlights with DRLs, 15-inch alloy wheels, wireless charging, automatic climate control, and a rear washer wiper.
Maruti’s Focus on CNG Vehicles
Maruti Suzuki leads the CNG car market in India and aims to sell 6 lakh CNG-powered cars and SUVs annually. In the April-August 2024 period alone, Maruti has sold 2.21 lakh CNG vehicles.
Regarding the Swift, 15% of the sales for the earlier generation came from CNG models. Maruti expects even higher demand for the new Swift CNG, thanks to its better fuel efficiency and wider price range. Deliveries will begin this weekend in Gujarat, followed by other states. Maruti has identified Gujarat, Maharashtra, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, and Delhi as its top markets for CNG sales.
