Bangalore Weather: Due to significant rainfall forecasts, schools in the Bengaluru Urban area will be closed on Wednesday, October 16, 2024. Officials are taking precautions to protect pupils after the India Meteorological Department issued an orange signal for the next two days. “As a precautionary measure in the interest of students, all taluk Anganwadi centres, private/aided primary and high schools of Bengaluru City will be closed on Wednesday,” stated the government order.
Government schools are currently on vacation for Dussehra. While schools are closed, degree, post-graduate, and diploma colleges, engineering colleges, and ITIs are not on holiday, the Bengaluru Urban District Commissioner stressed. These institutions were instructed by the Commissioner to make sure that students arrived at their destinations safely. The ruling further stated that lectures should not be held in buildings that are frail and in poor shape.
In Bengaluru, everyday life has been drastically impacted by the constant rain that has been falling since early Tuesday. It is challenging for office workers and students to get around the city due to traffic jams and water logging in a number of areas. The Commissioner stated that the closures are required to protect children’s health and safety. “The heads of the educational institutions are directed to ensure the safety of the staff and students and pay attention to the condition of the structures,” he said.
Parents are asked to make sure their children stay away from locations that are flooded, and colleges have been directed to help safeguard the safety of their students. Given the unfavorable weather, the regulation also highlights the importance of teaching pupils about disaster management in educational institutions.
In response to the inconveniences caused by the rain, the BBMP has set up control rooms in each of its eight zones around-the-clock and established a helpline (1533) for residents to report problems. Traffic congestion has been caused by heavy rains, especially in places like Varthur, Hebbal, and Kadubeesanahalli, where there have been major disruptions. The weather also caused problems for important IT hubs like Sarjapur and Manyata IT Park on the Outer Ring Road.
Additionally, situations like fallen trees obstructing roads and causing temporary closures, notably on Ashoka Pillar Road, have been brought on by the ongoing rain. The widespread rainfall has been caused by a low-pressure region over the Bay of Bengal, according to the India Meteorological Department.
A yellow notice, which indicates worsening weather conditions that could disrupt daily life, has been issued for the surrounding districts of Bengaluru, Tumakuru, Mysuru, Kodagu, Chikkamagaluru, Hassan, Kolar, Shivamogga, and Chikkaballapura in addition to the orange alert for Bengaluru. As the weather changes, authorities are still keeping a careful eye on the situation and working to ensure public safety.
